چکیده
We present the first observations from SuperDARN HF radar data of E-region Near Range Echoes (NREs) whose amplitudes are partially modulated by Medium-Scale Traveling Ionospheric Disturbances (MSTIDs) propagating in F-region overhead that have been observed same far ranges. NREs occur normally ∼180–315 km downrange at ∼95–125 altitude. Selected TID-modulated presented SANAE and Zhongshan Antarctic radars for both summer winter seasons as well geomagnetic active quiet times. show most likely mechanism is partial modulation Gradient Drift Instability (GDI), which responsible producing NREs. GDI driven velocity difference between neutrals ions may appear ionosphere wherever suitable plasma density gradients exist. already can be an MSTID passing via additional polarization electric field mapped down altitude along equipotential magnetic lines, thereby modulating NRE observed.

extremal region detection guided by maxima of gradient magnitude
a problem of computer vision applications is to detect regions of interest under dif- ferent imaging conditions. the state-of-the-art maximally stable extremal regions (mser) detects affine covariant regions by applying all possible thresholds on the input image, and through three main steps including: 1) making a component tree of extremal regions’ evolution (enumeration), 2) obtaining region ...
Multi-frequency observations of E-region HF radar aurora
Multi-frequency observations of E-region coherent backscatter from decametre waves reveal that auroral echoes tend to comprise two spectral components superimposed, one at low Doppler shifts, below 250 m s−1, and the other Doppler shifted to near the ion-acoustic speed or above, up to 800 m s−1. The low Doppler shift component occurs at all look directions; Doppler shifts near the ion acoustic ...
متن کاملBird Migration Echoes Observed by Polarimetric Radar
Weather surveillance radars observe clear-air radar echoes (CAE); aerial biota and irregularities in atmospheric refractive index caused the echoes. Using weak returns of atmospheric CAE, the radars have been applied to wind findings in a short radar range in a fair weather, in particular S-band radars. Long wavelength radars perform good to observe air motion, because a detectable turbulent sc...
متن کاملPc3–4 ULF waves observed by the SuperDARN TIGER radar
Despite extensive research, the mechanisms for propagation of Pc3–4 energy from the generation region at the bow shock to the high-latitude ionosphere remain unresolved. We used high temporal (6–12 s) and spatial (45 km) resolution data from the SuperDARN TIGER radar (Tasmania) to examine Pc3–4 wave signatures at the F-region heights. We focus on a case study on 28 September 2000, when large-am...
متن کاملEffects on SuperDARN HF radar echoes of sudden impulses of solar wind dynamic pressure
In this work we perform a statistical analysis of the ionospheric echo response observed by six radars of the SuperDARN network in the Northern Hemisphere, over 236 Sudden Impulses (SI) of solar wind dynamic pressure events (from 1997 through 2000). For that purpose, we make use of MRS, the Mean Rate of Scattering, as a function of time during the SI event. We classify the events in sudden incr...
